by Lucy Monroe

If you loved Lucy Monroe’s COME UP AND SEE ME SOMETIME, you won’t want to miss her latest romance! Funny, sexy, and full of heart, Monroe’s new novel makes “goodness” a whole lot better…

SURPRISE, SURPRISE

The last woman business consultant Marcus Danvers expects to find at Kline Electronics is Veronica Richards. He’s supposed to be rooting out a corporate spy, not rehashing an old love affair—with the woman who sold out the company they both used to work for and then took off without so much as a kiss goodbye. All the clues point to Ronnie as the firm’s newest mole, which means he’ll have to spend time with the stubbornly reticent—and mouthwateringly sexy—woman he hasn’t been able to forget, and uncover every last thing she has to hide…

FANCY SEEING YOU HERE

It’s just Ronnie’s luck. The one man she’d hoped never to see again is suddenly everywhere she looks—and taking up a starring role in her daydreams, too. Remembering the passion she and Marcus once shared certainly isn’t going to help, though, not when she has so many secrets, and no explanation for the way she left him eighteen months ago—or at least not one he’ll want to hear. The problem is, when Marcus is around all her good intentions go up in smoke…

Excerpt from Chapter 1

Kiki had to admit that seeing the cathedral with a private tour guide and two of her friends was a lot nicer than being part of a big group, but she still couldn't believe she'd let the gorgeous Sicilian pick her up in the piazza.  Even if her friends were coming along.

The daughter of a Spanish billionaire and former super model, she'd been raised to be about ten times more cautious than the average person.

Only there was something really special about Mich.  Her mom always said Kiki would know when she met that guy – the one she could not resist.  She'd dated, a lot more than her dad would have liked and less than her mom encouraged.

But Mich?  He was Kiki catnip.  He got to her with a smile in ways other men hadn't managed to after months of going out.

Okay, he was gorgeous.  Like over the top, alpha of the pack impressive.  She didn't think he wore a power tie to impress, but because that's who Mich was.  He couldn't be more a few years older than her, but she got the feeling he was already one of the "important players" as her dad called them.

Mich had presence in spades.  Even in her heels, he was a good three inches taller than her and his body was to die for and his business suit couldn't disguise a to die for body.  He had these aristocratic looks that went with the arrogance she'd come to realize pretty quickly was innate too.  And she had a near irresistible urge to reach up and muss his perfectly styled black hair.

It was his eyes that really got her though.  Espresso brown, they glowed with appreciation for her and a humor he invited her to share.

After the cathedral, they spent an hour at a trattoria, talking about everything and nothing at all while Joni and Davin played tourists with their cameras nearby.  Palermo was a beautiful city with bits of history and art everywhere.

And rather than wallowing in it, Kiki was lost in another kind of attraction all together.  She felt like she'd known Mich forever.

CHAPTER ONE

“I think we’ve got a spy.”

Marcus Danvers’s announcement erupted in Alex’s mind like Mt. St. Helens on a bad day.

Pushing his chair back slightly from the massive walnut desk that sat in the center of his office, Alex met Marcus’s expectant stare. “Why?”

Leaning in the open doorway, his six-foot-two-inch frame exuding casual relaxation while, Marcus’s blue eyes glittered with anticipation and amusement. “Harrison’s daughter called this morning.”

The closer they got to seeing John Harrison’s company dismantled, the less humor Alex found in anything.

“Explain.”

Marcus crossed the oversized office and sat down in one of the chairs facing Alex’s desk. “She wanted to know if I liked the idea of changing employers. Ms. Harrison said that she had a client interested in someone with my skill set and experience.”

Alex shrugged, making a concentrated effort not to overreact and feed Marcus’s off-beat sense of humor. “She works for one of the most exclusive headhunting agencies in the Portland area. She makes a lot of calls like the one you received this morning.”

Although he’d never met Isabel, Alex had no doubt she was a lot like her father. He stole men’s ideas. She stole employees, specializing in the hi-tech industry. According to his sources, she was very good at her job.

Marcus stretched out his long legs and crossed them at the ankle. “If you ask me, it’s too much of a coincidence right now. Our client is only months away from closing the deal on her dad’s company and she calls your most valuable employee trying to lure him away.”

“My most valuable employee being you?”

“Well, yes.” Marcus attempted a modest look of acceptance. “Not to mention an employee with inside information St. Clair’s plans to take Hypertron apart.”

Alex nodded. “I’ll look into it.”
Marcus stood up to leave.

“What did you say to her?”

Marcus turned around, his brows raised in mockery. “If I’d said yes, I wouldn’t have told you about the phone call, now would I?”

“With your twisted sense of humor, that’s not a given.”

“I told her no, boss. I’m not interested in leaving CIS. Working for you gives me a chance to use my hunter’s instincts without dressing up in fatigues and chasing some poor animal through the forest.”

With a sardonic smile, Marcus left.

Throwback Thursday - The Power of Love

The Power of Love:No Angel
Special Anthology
Trade Paperback
Berkley Trade - June 3, 2008
ISBN-10: 0425221482
ISBN-13: 978-0425221488

12 Original Stories by Lori Foster, Erin McCarthy, Rosemary Laurey, Kay Stockham, Meg Ruley, Dianne Castell, Patricia Sargeant, Luanne McLane, Lucy Monroe, Karen Kelley, Janice Maynard & J.C. Wilder

In this engaging anthology of never-before-published stories, twelve award-winning and bestselling authors are united by their unique visions of the resilient woman and her quest for self, for fulfillment, for empowerment, and for an enriching new appreciation for what love really means—and why it matters.

A young woman is torn between the overbearing security of her fiancĂ© and the excitement of an old flame...a desperate wife is forced into the workplace for the first time in her life...an ambitious professional woman finally finds the courage to take control of her career—and her man...an emotionally fragile divorcee finds resolve in the ethereal visitations of an archangel. These are just some of the women who discover and rediscover their wonderfully fallible selves in the shadow of love—romantic love, platonic love, new love, and lost love. You'll be touched, inspired, charmed, and amused by these twelve original stories of disparate longings, unsettled lives, and the power of love.

Can the power of love end domestic violence?
Romance novelists raise money, awareness for battered women
It's not the stuff of romance novels. Unfortunately, it isn't fiction either.

Lucy Monroe is involved in a very special project in which twelve authors hope to use their craft to raise both awareness and money to help end the ugly epidemic of domestic violence.

In 2001, more than half a million American women were victims of nonfatal violence committed by an intimate partner, according to the National Domestic Violence Hotline. And, in a national survey of more than 6,000 American families, 50 percent of men who frequently assaulted their wives also often abused their children.

"Domestic violence is a disease and unless we find a cure, the cycle of violence will continue," said Lori Foster, the New York Times best-selling author spearheading this project.

The multi-author benefit project will raise money for domestic violence prevention. Lori Foster and her co-coordinator for the project, Dianne Castell, invited 10 other award-winning and best-selling authors to join them in a romance anthology, THE POWER OF LOVE, to be released by Berkley Publishing in June 2008. All of the authors and their agents are donating their proceeds from this project to the Hamilton County YWCA's Women's Shelter.

"This is an amazing chance to use our talents to help change the lives of women and children affected by the ugliness of domestic violence," award winning and best selling author Lucy Monroe states.

In addition to Foster and Castell, Toni Blake, Karen Kelley, Rosemary Laurey, Janice Maynard, Erin McCarthy, LuAnn McLane, Lucy Monroe, Patricia Sargeant, Kay Stockham and J.C. Wilder contributed never-before-published stories. The anthology's unifying theme is women's empowerment and the healing power of love.

"The romances Lori and I write are filled with this theme, and we thought it a natural fit for women having the courage to stand on their own and start anew," Castell explained. This could be said of all the authors involved in the project.

Each story explores the resilient woman and her quest for self, for fulfillment, for empowerment, and for an enriching new appreciation for what love really means and why it matters.

"One of the best things about THE POWER OF LOVE is the diversity," Castell added. "So many stories and (they're) all different. Some sexy, some more serious, some fun; and all inspiring women to realize their full potential no matter what the obstacles."

The idea of women helping women through this project appealed to all the authors and if you speak to any of them or visit their websites, you can't help experiencing it.
