Cover Models & Hero Inspiration

I've got a little story for this cover model. Not all of you probably realize it, but I've got a shy bone. I don't like to travel alone and meeting strangers who are not readers (somehow people who read my books never feel like total strangers) can discombobulate me.

So, for my first ever RT Conference a few years ago, I roped my oldest sister into joining me. We went to sit down at our table during one of the lunches and CJ was already there. (The cover models had been asked to sit at different tables throughout the room.) I made my big sister sit next to him 'cuz I was too shy. He was a little wary at first; I think cover models get some pretty intense fans at the big romance dos. Anyway, by the end of lunch, my sister had us all chatting amicably. She'd got him convinced I wasn't a rabid middle-aged cover-bunny and she had me convinced I could talk to him even though he was something of a celebrity in my world. Go, big sisters!

While CJ is the last cover model for our Readers at Home Conference, don't despair. If you like a little bit of eye candy during your week. Tune in on Wednesday's for my Humpday Hotties, a Lucy Monroe blog favorite. :)

I feel your pain! I'm also painfully shy. And to make it all the more fun, when I get nervous meeting someone the tip of my nose and the tips of my ears turn a lovely shade of red. Thank God you had your sister there.

Thanks for a great week. This was fun!

Sisters are the best! I try to protect my little sister the same way our older sister watches out for us. We've got a great family :) Hugs to you all!!! We're definitely doing this again next year!

CJ!!!! I love him. I tell him bad jokes and he tells me not to quit my day job. LOL

Thanks for sharing! Being shy I can relate to you. Great that you had your sister with you.

How lucky are you to have a cool big sister? Sounds like CJ is very cool. Thanks for sharing, made me smile. I could have appreciated your big sister when I met Nora Roberts. I think I may have left her with the impression that I was a rabid groupie. LOL

I can see how you would get tongue-tied. But he seems very nice. Glad you had a chance to talk with him.

What a great story! I totally sympathize as I had a terrible case of shyness when I was younger and remnants still do remain in certain situations. But aren't sisters great? I'm so glad your sister was able to set everyone at ease like that.

I'm also a very shy person and I don't like being alone in a room full of strangers.

I don't think I would be able to took to any of the cover models all by myself but I can always count on my younger sister to do that for me LOL

It's nice to see how supportive your whole family is of you work Lucy! You're very lucky.

I think even with me being a chatty person, I would be very tongue tied if CJ was sitting at a table with me.

I'm not necessarily a big fan of long hair on men, but I think it could be overlooked in this dude's case!!!

Haha! Mom, I can see you aren't the only one who would be shy in that situation. It's not every day we get to eat lunch with a tall, handsome, and famous cover model:) Good thing you had your sis with you. I probably would have been bright red the entire time!

Your male models are always the best but this one......no thanks my dear. He's never appealed to me but I've seen the RT photos.....maybe after a couple of glasses of wine?

Great story! I probably would have just mumbled out a hi and sat there like an idiot. I'm glad a lot of you have such great sisters :)

Lucy, this conference has been such fun! I'm sad today is the last day, but I'm glad to hear you'll be doing it again next year. Thanks for putting this whole thing together and to all the authors who have participated!

I think I would pass out if I got to meet one of these cover models in person. It was a great idea to bring your sister along as backup.

I'm glad your sister could help you out. Thats what big sisters are for. I'm in agreement with another blogger I'm not partial to blonds even though I'm one. This is guy is pretty nice. Enjoy the rest of the convention! Keep the hotties coming!!

Haha great story! It takes me a few minutes to open up...and I have a hard time making eye contact with my eye candy lol

I met CJ at the same German conference lik Sly Bowden and later at the RT conventions. I am always shocked that he still remembers me each time.

It has always boggled my mind why people go crazy when they see a celebrity, regardless of their cuteness.

Nice of your sister though. I'm sure he was relieved as much as you.

joder said...

What a wonderful memory for you and your sister. And thanks again for all the hot men visiting.

Live the cover models!

Raonaid Luckwell said...

This is an awesome sister you have. I'd be more like you, way too shy to strike up a conversation with someone I knew to be a celebrity. If I did not squeal when I seen Sherrilyn then I know I won't behave like other fangirls but instead have my legs knocking together in nervousness

I am the same way Lucy pretty shy till I get to know someone.

Oh gee couldn't tell whether or not he had that light line of hair that travels down his stomach to that place just below his jeans that just begs for a person to follow that trail. Yummy!!

That is a great sister you have! And the picture of CJ looks hot. Green with envy that you got the chance to meet him!

Lady_Graeye said...

He's so purdy, Lucy! I'm glad you saved him for last. It's nice to hear about these cover models. I never thought there would be a time where you couldn't speak! I'm glad you got over it.

Cathy M said...

I get totally tongue tied around gorgeous men, and my sister is the one who can talk to anyone about anything too!

erahime said...

I agree w/ the others that he is HOTT. That pose sure is inspirational. That hair sure looks like you want to run your hands through them. That look makes you think that he is gazing at the woman he covets. *sigh*

Anyway, it was great to have so many cover models this past five days. Thanks, Lucy, for giving us more eye candy than usual. And it's great that you met CJ. Hope you see more eye candy during the conference, Lucy!

Thanks for sharing your story! I think it helps to show that a lot of people who may be famous in some way are real people too. There really isnt anything to be afraid of when it comes to just chatting with them. And they really might be as nervous about it as you are.

I always try to remember that writers are regular people and try not to squee to much when I'm lucky enough to meet one. I also appreciate how down to earth most of them are, no noses in the air to make you feel inferior for saying hello I loved your book.
