Lucy's On the Road

So, you know what happens when you whine at your hubby about going with him on a business trip? He invites you along. At least mine did. He has a class on QC 80,000 (something to do with his new job as an environmentalist at Intel) here in sparkly Reno, NV. I said, "Gosh, I wish I could go with you." And maybe I whined...a tad.

He said, "Why don't you?"

I said, "What are you nuts? We've got six, cout 'em, SIX teenagers. We can't leave them without adult supervision for five days!!!!"

He said, "Yes, we can."

Um...we did. So, here we are...a totally unexpected five day getaway together in Reno. Neither of us gamble, but we like all the sound, lights and energy of the city. We're going to shows (I'll blog about 'em - don't worry) and I'm working (writing, email, etc.) while he's in class during the day. It's perfect, if a bit scary.

But the teens are doing fine, the contractors (remember the guys putting our flooded house back together?) have figured out how to use our alarm without getting the police involved (Yay!!) and I've got several drop-in visits by friends and family planned for my teens. Yes, I trust 'em - but well, I'm a mom...I worry! LOL

Our room is gorgeous with a view of the city - at night, it is spectacular, but during the day it's nothing to sneeze at either. I am writing with a picture post-card image of the hills around Reno right out my window. Very inspiring! Which is good because I lost two days of writing getting ready for this trip and flying down here and playing hooky with hubby yesterday. It's time I kicked it into high gear. :)

You all want me to bring something special back from Reno? I could give it away as this week's blog prize. At least one, maybe more than one, random winner will be drawn from all the comments on all the posts from this week. Yes, if you comment on more than one post, or more than once, your name will be entered in the drawing more than once. :)

Todays question: If you could go anywhere in the world for five days, where would it be?

Me? Anywhere with my hubby...I love to travel and see new places, but the company makes the trip something special - or not - as the case may be. I've been places that were far more exotic without him and didn't have half the fun.

Hugs,
Lucy

It sounds like a great trip. Have fun! If I could go anywhere it would be Scotland. I'd like to spend a couple of weeks there. Or just anywhere really. It's been awhile since we've gone on vacation.

Enjoy your time together and lucky you to have this surprise trip. I would love to go to Italy as that would be a dream come true for me. The history, beauty, food and country appeals to me so much.

My ultimate destination that would be meaningful and special would be Spain. Especially Barcelona. Perhaps in the next few years I hope to plan a European vacation.

How wonderful to get some time together. I would pick Alaska because I would love to see it and I know my husband would enjoy it too.

It would definitely be Ireland.

Have a wonderful time. Since I have never been a traveller but now long to, my primary focus would be to France and Italy. So much to explore and enjoy.

I would pick a sister trip. It's hard to get all four of us together, it's about 10 years since we went on a cruise, which was a total blast. If I could go anywhere and not worry about money, I always pick a spa week. Spoil me please!!

I would go to Lebanon where my grandparents live... it would be great and it has been some time that I have not seen them.

I'm going to say anywhere with my hubby but it has to be a real vacation. We've never been on a real vacation before where we go somewhere just for fun, to explore and hang out. Its always been to visit family etc.

I would love for my hubs and I to take a trip to Scotland. To be honest, I'm not sure if I'd take the kids or not! *G*

Enjoy your trip to Reno, I've been there and the view can be amazing!

What I would really love would be to go on a leisurely trip to Greece, Italy and Portugal. I am fascinated with those countries.

I'd take a trip to the Orkney Isles off Scotland with my husband. I'm fascinated by the ruins and history.

Yay! Hope you're having a great trip. May I recommend the Wor Won Ton Soup in the deli on the lower floor of the Silver Legacy Casino? Other than the breakfast buffet, it's our favorite meal in all of Reno. :)

And if I could go anywhere for five days, right now, it would be a cabin in the woods with electricity to hook up the laptop.

Can you tell I've got deadlines? :)

Hi Lucy,
My husband and I took a vacation a few years ago to see my mom out in Nevada (before she moved up here). We stayed with her for a few days then stayed in Las Vegas for 5 days! We had our son, he was almost 5 at the time, with us. But, like you guys, we don't gamble. We had a great time just taking the whole scene in. The lights, sounds, sights! It was great.
Where would I like to go for 5 nights? It seems quite a few people here want to go to the same place...Scotland! When my son is old enough to not need me I would love to go there. Getting my hubby to go...that could prove to be very difficult! He is not big on traveling. But I hope he'll give in when the time is right. He usually always gives in to me! I'm a good brider!! LOL! ;)
I hope you have a great time!

Hi Lucy,
I so happy that you and your DH are having a good time. You deserve it!

I hate to travel, but if I could just blink and be there I'd love to see Australia.

Hey Lucy!

The trip sounds fun! If I could go anywhere for a lil while...I think I would either go to Forks Washington....or Ireland. I love rainy places. I also just wanted to say that I absolutely love your books. I read Moon Awakening in one day and the ext night I went to Borders and bought it. It's one of my top faves now. I also wanted to know if you were going to write more for the children of the moon series. I would be so excited if you did.

Thanks for all your good wishes...you all so ROCK!

But you're definitely giving me itchy feet for some more international travel. ::g::

And Jaded Bee...thanks!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed MA. I definitely plan to write more Children of the Moon books; just they'll be later than I wanted because I didn't get as many books written this last year as I had hoped. Health issues can be such a pain, but it feels great to be well again. :)

Hugs to all!!!

Hi Lucy,
So glad you are enjoying yourself. I've been to Hawaii for two weeks and to Las Vegas so I guess I'd like to go back to the Grand Canyon. It's so beautiful there. xoxoxoxo

I can hardly wait to see who the guest blogger will be.

Lucky you-I'm so jealous! The best the dh and I did this year was drive from Detroit to Chicago (5 1/2 hrs) to see the Jerry Springer Show! LOLOL OMG, what an experience (I blogged about it).

Anyway...

Hmmm that's a tough one. If I had a chance to go anywhere I wanted for five days. I would love to go visit and research both sides of my family tree. Therefore, it would be a toss-up between Ireland and Italy (I'm a half breed :)). But, I'm not picky. Either one would be fine with me!

Wow, seems you're having a great time. 5 days in Victoria, B.C.(Canada) would be fine for me and dh. The scenery is so different and beautiful. Then a ferry ride over to Vancouver would complete my wishes.

TeresaR said...

Lucy you and DH deserved this time together.
I would have to agree with you about being with my one true love, and best friend (DH)I love a long drive were we can talk and dream together, then hopefully the drive would end at a beach (any beach would do)were we can walk in the surf as the sun sets. The beach I would Love to spend 5 days is the white sands of Greece. Then sneak in 5 more days in Italy. Keep writing your readers love your books. I can't wait for "Deal With This".

I am having so much fun, but honestly a big part of it is you all! It's great to see bloggers who haven't posted in a while, or who are new to the blog along with those of you who have been keeping me company since I got back online.

You're all really wonderful, special people!
