Guest Author: Catherine Spangler

I'm super pleased to bring you a guest blog with Catherine Spangler! She's a total sweetheart and uber talented besides and is guaranteed to keep you all entertained as I recover from this dumb cold. Welcome, Catherine!!!

~ ~ ~ ~

Howdy from Texas!

Hello everyone! Catherine Spangler here. Thank you, Lucy, for inviting me to be a guest on your blog. Hey gang, isn't Lucy awesome? She's one of the nicest people I know, and her books are hot! Love those sexy alpha heroes. We adore you, Lucy.

Now down to business. Lucy suggested I talk about my writing and my books. I didn't want to sound full of myself or bore y'all, but then I started thinking, I can talk books and never get tired of it. I love books. I love reading and I love writing them, and I love talking about them with other readers. So I'm guessing y'all are the same way, and your eyes won't glaze over when I discuss my new paranormal series ::g::.

The first book of the Sentinel Series, Touched by Darkness, will be out in January. The book has a *awesome* cover, with ultra-hottie Nathan Kamp. If you look closely (no, ladies, a little higher), you can see he's wearing a pendant, which all Sentinels wear. I had a goldsmith design it, and it's pink quartz crystal, hand wire-wrapped in sterling silver. I'm giving away a pendant this month and next month, so visit my website to enter at

This series features Sentinels, who are in human bodies but have superhuman powers. They psychically track specific evil beings, and a small handful of normal humans, conductors, have the ability to enhance their tracking abilities. Matched Sentinels and conductors are always opposite sex, and the conduction process raises some serious sexual energies. The sparks fly! I love alpha heroes, and the hero of Touched by Darkness, Damien Morgan, is no exception. He's tall, dark, and dangerous - and not completely human. Not to worry - Kara, the heroine, has been to hell and back and gives him a run fro the money.

Book two, Touched by Fire, will be out in October 2007. I hope you'll check out the series. There are excerpts and reviews on my webpage, and of course, the contest for the gorgeous pendant.

Discussion question (I think it's mandatory - LOL): What are some of your favorite book series?

I'll start it off: Besides Lucy's Mercenaries trilogy, I like J.D. Robb (Roark is yummy), J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series, Janet Evanovich (Stephanie Plum), and Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse) - and that's just to name a few. Okay, your turn. Tell us what series you like. We'll draw a name from the responses and the winner will receive her (or his) choice of one of my books and some chocolate (to enhance the reading experience )

Happy Holidays! ~ Catherine

I get to be the first to comment and can I just say the new Sentinal Series sounds absolutely addictive?? I can't wait to read it. As for favorite series I'm already reading? I love Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters, Christine Feehan's Carpathians and Ghost Hunters, all of Amanda Quick's mini-series, all of Lori Foster's series, JJ Massa's werewolves and Agency books, Lora Leigh's Breeds and there are others I'm sure, but these are the ones that popped to mind first. :)

Welcome Catherine! Thank you for the great blog! And really enjoy reading all of your books!!

I also read J.D. Robb, Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse and Janet Evanovich's Stepanie Plum books,I adore Jayne Ann Krents (Jayne Castle) futuristic/paranormal series and am SERIOUSLY looking forward to Lucy's new series about the TPG because I couldn't put down her mercenary series!!! Those are the romance type series I read, you don't want to get me started on the mystery seies I read.
This new series by Catherine sounds like something I need to check out!!

First off I just love that cover!

I must admit I'm not much of a series reader. My all time favorite is the Earth Series by Jean Auel. I believe she has one more to write but there was like ten years or more between books and I hate long waits lol. I just bought the six Gabaldon series starting with Outlander but haven't started it as yet.

Lovely cover...definitely grabs you!

I love series...some of my faves include Julia Quinn's Bridgertons, Lucy's Mercenaries, Dianne Castell's O'Fallon's Landing books, Leigh Greenwood's Seven Brides, and many more.

Estella said...

Love your books Catherine!
My favorite series Are the Death series by JD Robb, Lucys Mercenary trilogy, and Evanovitchs' Plum novels.

Rachael said...

I love series books. I like Evanovich's also. Others are Harlan Coben, Tess Gerritsen, Lisa Gardner, Allison Brennan, and JK Rowling.

Rachael said...

Oh a few more I just thought of. Nancy Bartholomew, Tori Carrington, Jennifer Apodaca and Diane Mott Davidson.

Kate Davies said...

Hi Catherine! Your series sounds fabulous -- can't wait until they're available.

And I can't believe I beat Stacy to the punch in giving a shout-out to Suz Brockmann! I absolutely lurve her SEAL books.

Other fave series include Julia Quinn's Bridgerton books, Lucy's Mercenary and Selwyn family trilogies, Kenyon's Dark Hunters, Debbie Macombers Cedar Cove series (just finished book six!), and the list goes on. I *love* connected characters and storylines, and the only downfall is I tend to glom onto books I love and then have to read all of them. At once.

Which can be a problem if I'm on deadline, or the author hasn't actually finished the series yet. :)

Minna said...

One of my favorites is definitely JD Robb's In Death series.

Minna said...

And Karen Whiddon's The Pack series.

Stacy~ said...

I'm with a lot of you here - JD Robb, the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Stephanie Plum, Bridgertons, Dark Hunters, Foster's Visitation series, Lucy's Mercenaries to name the prominent ones that come to mind.

I haven't read a series in quite a while, but I've taken note of everyones favorites, thanks for the great suggestions.

Catherine Spangler said...

Kathleen and Estella, thanks for your kind comments about my books. What a great list of series we're getting. I'm with you, Kate--I love connected characters, and when I meet an interesting secondary character in a book, I want more of that character. Sue, girl, we need to get you going on some series books! For some reason, your post made me think of an older series that I loved--Linda Howard's McKenzie series, which started with McKenzie's Mountain. I may be dating myself--LOL. How many of you remember that series?

LOL, About the Mackenzies. The quesiton is , howm many times do we RE-READ the series, LOL.

I'm with a lot of ladies who already listed my fav's. The Anita Blake and Merry Gentry series from LKH, Sherrilyn Kenyons, Katie MacAllister's Dark Ones and the Aisling Grey series, Sookie Stackhouse, Karen Marie Monings series, J.R. Wards, Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden Series, Tara Jensen's Crazy series (and those muscle cars), Christina Skye's CodeName series and Sandra Hills, Viking and Navy SEAL series.... um...that's just a few of the ones I follow. Did I forget Kim Harrison? Can we include Lucy's Ready, Willing, and Able series - it's a mini series, but still hot and thrilling.
OK, I'll stop babbling now. LOL

Hi Catherine, I love your books! Glad you are writing a series, they look really, really interesting. I really enjoy that type of story. Glad you mentioned Touch by Fire will be out in Oct. I put it on my TBB list. Touched by Darkness is already on my Jan. TBB list.

Lucy, any time you want to add another book to the Ready, Willing, And Able series you will have a ready audience.

Deidre Knight also has a great series going with Parallel Attraction, Parallel Heat and soon Parallel Seduction. It's a really intriguing series.

Then there is Suzanne Brockmann's SEAL series. They are definitely hot too.

As someone lucky enough to be reading Touched By Darkness right now, I can tell you it's going to be a great series!

Hi Cathy!

Catherine Spangler said...

Hey Danny and Kristen! Thank you for your kind words about Touched by Darkness. I'm a little nervous about it, because it's so different from my SF romances. But with Nathan on the cover, I'm off to a great start :-)
And I really like series, because if it's a good book, I always hate for the story to end.

Feel better soon, Lucy. Great post Catherine. Thanks. I'm a read by the seat of my pants, girl. Series demand commitment, so I don't often read them.
Um, except LOTR. Some things are so good I'm FORCED to commit. :-)

This post is very belated but I LOVE LOVE reading series and just couldn't help but add my two cents. Many of my favorites have already been mentioned including: Lucy's Mercenaries, LKH's Anita Blake, Feehan's Ghostwalkers and Tara Janzen's Crazy series. I love both of Brockmann's SEAL series (Troubleshooter and Tall, Dark, and Dangerous). Evanovich's Plum series is wonderful but so is the Full series in collaboration with Charlotte Hughes. Susan Mallery's Buchannan series is fantastic. Lori Foster's Visitation series was mentioned but I love her new Fighter Series, can't wait for the book! I also love Susan Elizabeth Phillip's Chicago Star's series. For those series lovers some good resources for keeping track of books in sereis include KDL's What's Next Database ( and Novelist which is a subscription database available at most public libraries! (Sorry, I'm a librarian, had to get some plugs in but they are VERY useful resources, espeically for keeping track of your favorite series!!!!)
