Another Day in the Life...

of your intrepid explorer...okay friendly author who likes to research.

I tried to blog yesterday, but couldn't get Blogger to cooperate with me. Not sure what the problem is, but I'm not having a lot of luck today either. So, I'm trying the email function for blog posts. :) Here's hoping it works.

For those of you who did not notice Melissa's announcement...READY & WILLING are both available as eBooks now! Yippee! I'm going to have to do some kind of special giveaway for that...stay tuned for details.

On to my travelogue...we've done Yaletown (which is no Soho, but I can see why so many actors take up residence in this area just bursting with character and creative flavor) and the Gaslight district (which is a mecca for panhandlers and I'm a pushover and well that could be a story in itself) and Stanley Park where we saw both dolphins and totem poles. Last night we had dinner at a restaurant on Burnaby Mountain (a lovely hill with a gorgeous view of the city and the sunset) and today I'm interviewing an actor for the inside scoop on the film industry.

He's the gent Lynette suggested and he's not only very kind and generous with his time, but an aspiring author. So, we should have lots to chat about. Want to have a look at his blog? Go to:
http://markmc03.livejournal.com/ Afterward, my family and I will be going to Lions Gate to take pictures from the outside again and get a better feel for the North Vancouver studio.

My son's discovered the techno music store and my daughter the retro clothing shop (there's a chain of them...) and my other daughter the water park. Yeah, that's going to be good for her chemically treated hair. LOL Hubby is trying to beat some mind challenge game on his PSP (um...yeah, we *are* on vacation) and I'm having a fabulous time all around.

On that note, what's something you do on vacation that people wouldn't normally think of doing?

I read and unless you're a reader...it's hard to understand that need on the beach in Puerto Rico, for instance. :)

I'm glad you are all having such a great time!! The only vacations I have ever been on are to see family! I never go out of town just to have fun and explore. Someday I'm hoping to do that!

Glad you're having a good time. I also read on vacation, of course I read anytime.

I also always read on vacation - and it's always the last thing I do at night. We also always try to find a restaurant that's off the beaten path to try and get the real feel of the place we are visiting.

Good to hear that you have a great time!

When I am visiting a a country on vaccation I love to learn more about the country and the people. I am not one of those people who love to spend the whole day at the beaches to get sun tan. I know some people who always say your vaccation wasn't good because you don't have enough tan.

I also like to find out more about an area I'm visiting. Beaches are great and all, but I want to explore!

Sleep the first day I get there. I can't stand jet lag. ugh!

I read as well, Lucy.:) I haven't been on a proper vacation for a few years, but something I did a few years ago, which was out of the ordinary for me was to write.

I hadn't had much published then, but found the setting, 'Menorca in Spain', very awe inspiring. I managed to hand write a couple of chapters and it inspired me to write a short story on my return.

There wasn't much to do at the resort and it was a little out of season, so writing really helped.

I didn't go on on to finish that particular book, but I have used the characters and settings in others.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip, Lucy!

I always have to find some second-hand bookstores. You can always find books there you might not find in regular bookstores or in your own country, for that matter. There are some great second-hand bookstores in Vancouver, by the way. I'm still looking for that book about David Thompson, though.

Glad you are having a good time.

I read as well...I sometimes don't even leave the hotel room because I am reading (the sun and I don't get along...I am not a beach person). My brother says that I am the only person he knows who comes back from the beach just as white (if not whiter) than when they went. Oh, and I also buy books...I usually come back with twice as many books as I take...I call them my souvineers.

So glad that you are all having a good time.

It has been awhile since I have been on vacation, but I love to just sit back and read. Another thing I like to do is to visit some of the shops that are usually around.

I love to read, but I also like to explore. To learn more about where I visit and pick up all those little pamplets that visitor centers and other places have for people to grab.

Wow! Sounds like you are having a great time. I definitely have to find a way to check out Vancouver sometime. Glad to assist with the announcement about the ebook release. I was so excited when I had the notice in my inbox from fictionwise.

I don't know that I do anything considered unusual on vacation. I think reading is a perfectly normal vacation activity. I try to balance sight-seeing with resting so that I don't come back more frazzled than when I left. No matter how much I plan I can't seem to leave on vacation without staying at work until late catching up paperwork and then staying up allnight or close to it the night before packing. I always swear things will work out differently "next time", but somehow they never do.

sounds like you are having a wonderful time. You deserve a break...

I love to read to on vacation. I like to site see but not at the expense of some down time.

Speaking of vacations, I just got back from our yearly trip to Wildwood Crest (near Cape May on the Jersey shore).

I slept late, walked every morning with a friend and read a little every night -- in addition to all the other activities.

It sounds like your trip is fun as well as being productive!

This may not be unusual, but I try really hard when on vacation to find someplace very local to eat. I love food; you can tell a lot about a place by the dishes the region is famous for. Wonder what that would be in Vancouver?

Dena said...

Sounds like you and the family are having lots of fun.

I can't think of anything unusual we do on vacation. Were just boring that way, lol.

The only times I've traveled was to help my daughter when she had her children. Of course, I read while I was there.

I love reading on the beach. I can read a whole book while the rest of my family is swimming in the waves or fishing.

Hi Lucy

I finally made it over to your Blog. I have to say this is very cool. I'm sorry I've waited so long to find this.

I hope you enjoy your vacation.

On vacation I read while the husband drives and I referee the kids in the back seats. Pretty much what I do when I'm home. LOL

That's great news about the books being available in ebook formats.

Annie West said...

Lucy, congratulations on the ebooks! That's so exciting.

As for doing something different on holidays - hm - I always intend to sleep in and relax a lot. So of course a few months ago when we were at a beach on the Great Barrier Reef, who was going for dawn walks? And on a trip some time ago to southern Turkey, where the water was like silk and the food was terrific, who turned a half hour stroll into a full afternoon of clambering over hillsides, looking at ancient rock monuments instead of lolling by the sea?

So glad to hear you're having such a great time on your vacation. I hope you manage to catch up with some of your reading.

Annie

Glad you had a great time on your vacation. This is my first time on your blog. Have bought your books and I do read whenever I can. If we are on vacation I read when I am not visiting with relatives. I have started buyng some ebooks and down loaded them to my PDA.
