Special Added Prize Blog for Tuesday

One of the fun things about being hostess is that I kinda get to do what I want and I thought it would be fun to bring some authors to the party that aren't on the official participation list.

I asked these authors, what they do to relax. Here are their answers along with their generous prize offerings to be added to today's drawings:

Jerri Drennan said, "When I'm not writing and I want to relax, I go for a long walk. It helps to clear my head, especially if I'm having trouble plotting a current WIP."

She's giving away a pdf edition of her latest Loose I.D. release, Saving Grace.

The Jen half of the Ashleigh Raine writing team said, "Besides reading, which is my favorite way to relax, I fully admit I’m a television junkie. Veronica Mars, LOST, Bones, How I Met Your Mother, Gilmore Girls, Supernatural, The Unit are my favorite current shows, and I also love to watch my old favorites on DVD, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Friends, Earth 2, Roswell. But since I can’t just sit and watch TV, I cross stitch or ride my exercise bike while watching. I have a hard time doing only one thing at once. As my hubby tells me, I’m not very good at relaxing. There’s too much I want to be doing!"

Jen is giving away a canvas Talisman Bay tote bag with an autographed print copy of Lover’s Talisman and some other goodies--bubble bath, love dice, toy love cuffs and whatever other goodies I have stored in her goodie box in her office closet.

So...what do YOU do to relax?

When I want to relax I run a bubble bath, then lay in the tub with a book until the water goes cold.
I also like to sew, and scrapbook. Both those crafts relax me, and help pass the time.

Cherie Japp said...

My top favorite way to relax is reading. I also love sitting in a jacuzzi with my hubby but we have not been able to do that for awhile since I am currently pregnant and due in October.

Rachael said...

I read to relax! Light candles, watch TV or a movie, talk on the phone, play on the internet, talk to friends online, organize my bookshelves, go to the bookstore, go to the library, go shopping!

Cherie Japp said...

I also love to bake and try new recipes but due to my pregnancy and the heat I have not done that for awhile.

WOW! Great question, answers, and prizes.

To relax, I read, watch a movie, or watch tv.

Joyce said...

Obviously reading is my favorite way to relax. Then there is watching TV.
I had a blinding headache late last night and I couldn't read so I decided to try spider solitaire. I couldn't believe that after a few minutes my headache was almost all gone.

Maureen said...

To relax I turn off all televisions and stereos and sit down on the couch and read a good book.

Dannyfiredragon said...

The best way to relax for me is to read a book and listen to some good music.

Good luck for everyone for the additional prizes. Ashleigh Raine's books are fantastic!!!!!!!!

Debbie E said...

My ways of relaxing are:

Reading but I have to hide out in my bathroom for peace and quiet until they catch on.

I do try and walk everyday for 30-45 minutes and that puts everything into perspective because I actually look at the trees and wonder how God made the leaves and nature itself.

I have an exercise bike but I tend to use that in the winter.

I'm also not really great at sitting still and relaxing but I attempt peace of mind sometimes.
grin

I am such a fan of alot of authors here. This is very exciting to be a part of this. Thanks Lucy!

When I want to relax I love to grab a good book and lay on the bed and read.

But another great way to relax for me is to do jigsaw puzzles. I love the challenge of them. Some of them I have framed and kept, others I have just done them and then after getting them completed and leaving them that way for a bit I put them back into their boxes. This is where some friends have told me that this is a total waste of time, but for me it is relaxing.

I love to listen to country music playing in the background or on my cd's at the same time.

Amy said...

To relax I curl up with a great book by one of my favorite authors. and take a long bubble bath

Nicole said...

I love to sit on the couch and watch Tivo'd episodes of What Not to Wear (TLC and BBCA versions) and The Closer.

And of course, reading.

Lois said...

Read. . . but mostly sleep. Oh yeah, sleep. Sounds soooo good. :)

Brandy said...

I read or blog hop. Both help to to relax.

Cherie - Congratulations on your soon to be baby! That is so cool! :)

Joyce, I envy you getting rid of your headache, my husband's been trying to do that for months. :) I'm glad yours is gone.

I love most of the shows Ashleigh Raine mentioned. My teenager and I have been doing a Buffy marathon this summer. We've been 3 episodes away from finishing Season 6 for two painful weeks now. ;)

I am not very good at relaxing. I am usually doing at least two things at once.
But if I need to sit down for a couple of moments, I grab a book or get online. I find that talking to my e-friends is a good way to just relax and have a good laugh. And if I grab a book, I can escape for a period of time to a land and time far far away from my hussle and bussle. :o)

robynl said...

Relaxation for me is to turn off the lights in the living room but have one in the kitchen going for soft ambience; then I put on some Nature music, sit in the recliner with my puppy and lay back and relax.

Jennifer L. said...

Call my girlfiends over to watch movies. I provide the ice cream and peach cobbler. They provide the martinis and wine.

LISA WILLIAMS said...

I read to relax!

Michelle B said...

I'm a TV junkie as well! Sometimes I also read or listen to music when I want to relax:)

ShelMel said...

I normally read or veg out and watch mindless TV for a while. Sometimes I play the piano. And well, my husband and I sit out on the back patio and talk about our dreams and our future.

Niny said...

When I want to relax I either read a book or just sit in my favourite rocking chair with a cup of tea, my ipod and watch nature. I wish I had a hot tub so I could read a book in it but that is in our list to do in the future, so in the meantime that is all I can do to relax, but my favorite way is to read, read, read!!

Minna said...

To relax I read a book, watch TV or just sleep.

Jen said...

My favorite way to relax is reading. I get lost in a book. I also love to get away for a while out of town (without kids) and see new places.
Writing helps me relax but only when I don't feel under the gun.

Darla said...

Sit outside in my porch swing with a good book and my dogs!

JillB said...

Well, if I'm not reading then i relax by having a bubble bath, with nice soothing music playing in the background; and the bathroom will be decorated with candles and I'll have incense burning as well - I usually burn two scents together: cinammon and gardenia - they work really well together.
Then I'll get out and lie on the bed, more candles, music and incense and a glass of wine. (and maybe some cheese and fruit)

catslady said...

Curled up with a good book, either a glass of wine or black coffee and at least one cat curled up with me :)

Jen in WA said...

Relax? What's that? OK... seriously I read to relax. Get me in a comfy chair with a good book (with a bottle of ice water nearby) and I'm good. With the weather as hot as it has been, I can also be found relaxing in the pool... floating on a raft with book in hand.

Jenn said...

When I want to relax I read. It's my favorite way to relax after a long day chasing the kids

Michele said...

Fun question!

To Relax - a true challenge when you have two active boys, LOL.

Except for locking myself in the bathroom, I read romance books, blog, bake, read cookbooks to look for that ultimate yummy, eat the ultimate yummy, ride my bike, garden or listen to my favorite tunes via headphones laying on my bed in the dark - nocturnal relaxing is best. :-)

There's one more nocturnal activity, but this is a family blog..LOL

Judy F said...

my fav way is to read. Or take a nap with my cat. Vegging on the couch works too. This past sat I had a jammie day it was great. I don't get to do that very often and it was fun

Andie said...

I am right there with Chantal...a good hot bubble bath, a good book and a cold glass of wine. I also love to spend the afternoon cooking a big meal to share with family and friends. Nothing like praise for good food from the people you love

My favorite way to relax is to read, with total peace and quiet. I will sometimes get up real early, before anyone else, fix myself coffee and just sit for an hour or so with whatever I'm currently reading. It puts me in a good mood for the rest of the day.

kim said...

i love to read and listen to music all day long.

Mark St. Claire said...

What I like doing when I'm relax is write, read, play games, play with my dog or go to the club I frequent. 2 drinks is enough for me as I sit and relax and also enjoy the live shows they have. I also like going for walks with my dog and she seems to enjoy it.

I just had to post that I also love Joss Whedon. I have the first three seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Once I saw the movie Serenity, I had to go out and buy Firefly. The man knows how to mix action, adventure and romance in a great setting. When I have to get out of the bath, I love to watch BTVS and fold laundry.

Heather Harper said...

Taking a walk works for me.

I also stretch to releive stress and calm my mind.

Heather Harper said...

That would be RELIEVE.

Bella Tyler said...

I read or I watch a movie I've seen a million times, like Breakfast at Tiffanys.

Becky said...

For me I either read a good book to relax, take a nice long bubble bath, or I go for a walk around a park. Sometimes I'll do macrame. I sell them at craft fairs. It always makes me feel content. I make most of my own jewelry. :)

Ali said...

To relax, I love to wear loose clothing, wrap my throw blanket on me and read. It doesn't hurt to have a few candles burning, and if I could control the weather, to have it raining, lol

Cheryl said...

Besides reading, I also enjoy crocheting. But mostly in the cooler weather. Winter is perfect for making afghans since you can have them on your lap keeping you warm while they progress.

Jodi said...

I relax by reading a book while soaking in a hot bath! Or, I play on the internet.

Stephanie said...

I go outside to tend and water my plants unless like lately when its just plain too hot to and I have to hurry thru it! Then I lock myself in my room and read or do some baking in my cool kitchen!

Sara A. said...

A friend tried to teach me to crotchet and I just couldn't get the hang of it, other than one long chain of yarn. LOL I sure wish I was more crafty!

And someone else mentioned drinking a glass of wine. That's a great way to relax! Love wine. :-)

I like to read to knit to relax -- usually with music or TV in the background.

I read or listen to music on my iPod. In the winter I like to soak in my tub with the water super hot and read a book. It's too hot right now to do that so the most relaxing thing to do in this heat is...sit under a fan! LOL

Hellooooo! I'm way down here at the bottom. lol! Please don't overlook me. When I want to relax I read or sleep. Sometimes shaving my legs relaxes me. A good primping session always does the trick.

Jennifer L. said...

I've never thought of shaving my legs as relaxing before, but having silky-smooth legs makes me feel PRETTY! Another good relaxing treat that I splurge in is the occasional hot stone massage followed by a facial.

Shelia said...

Jen, I love "The Unit"...it's one of my favorite shows besides CSI.

Stacy Dawn said...

I like to veg out and watch TV but I'm the same, I have to do something else while at the same time, read, make notes, sew.

Pam Champagne said...

I write to relax after a long day of dancing to the tune for a bunch of lawyers. Saving Grace is a great book by the way. I highly recommend. it.

KimW said...

I love to curl up on the couch and read to relax. Forget the laundry, forget the chores...just get lost in the story.

Lucy Monroe said...

Congrats on your pregnancy, Cherie! Bummer on the hot tub, but those little darlin's are worth it.

Okay...I love to read too and it is my number one form of relaxation, but I love bubble baths! And crafts...and walking...and sitting by the fire (in the winter of course). The only thing missing in my current home is a fireplace. I'd install one, but there's really no place to put it. LOL

Tee said...

I read! And sometimes I have the TV when I am doing that. If I am not reading I am cross stitching or something crafty. I cannot just sit there or I will fall fast asleep. There are one or two favorite shows on at least five out of seven nights in our home too.

I loved both of these books!!! THey are on my keepers shelf ! Me with relaxing, of course is reading, but too, I remember when we were able to go to a friend's cabin before just for a weekend and so quiet. I miss that and should do that again. But I love to relax reading, chatting with my friends and authors are ajoy.

Shari C said...

I love to go for a walk early in the day when it is quiet outside and I can enjoy the coolness of the morning and see the sun starting to come up beyond the trees. With it so quiet I can hear the wonderful songs of various birds, have even seen deer, a fox, a black squirrel and various other small creatures. Great way to start a day and bring a smile to your face.

I love to run a nice, warm bath and drop in a lovely bath bomb. Then I relax in the tub with a glass of wine and soft music playing.

Ashleigh Raine Jen said...

Thanks, Danny. *blush* You're a sweetheart!

CanadianFriend, I used to do jigsaw puzzles all the time. I saw a LOST puzzle at B&N the other day and considered picking it up but decided against it since my cats tend to steal the pieces. *G*

Jamie, you must finish season 6 of Buffy! It's heartbreaking, but soooo good!

Flip, I love Joss Whedon. I worship at the altar of his creativity. The man's a genius. I was at a convention one time where he was speaking and I managed to get a seat in the front row. I barely kept myself from doing the "I'm not worthy" genuflecting. If Joss is involved in a project, I'll watch it.

Shelia, "The Unit" *sigh* I'll admit what drew to me to it first was Scott Foley. I have a serious crush on Mr. Foley. I'll give you the short version of the story. In December 2002 my writing partner, Lisa, went to a taping of AUSA and ended up getting Scott to call me on the phone (I was supposed to go to the taping and ended up with a wicked case of stomach flu). Scott invited me to future tapings and I ended up meeting him the next month at two tapings. He's one of the sweetest actors I've ever met. Love Scott. Love The Unit!

Cathie, thank you for saying Lover's Talisman is on your keeper shelf. (((HUGS)))

My hubby just got home from work, so it's relaxing with the hubby time. :)

Pam P. said...

Cherie, congrats on the baby to be! Mel, I don't think I'll try your way, lol.

Reading, with music playing in the background is my favorite way of relaxing. Being at the shore with the sound of the surf, even better.

Waving at JJ.

Kiki said...

A cup of tea and a good book are definitely on the top of my list of relaxing things.
I love long walks with my iPod, too. Anywhere. For hours. nothing clears my head better.
If Im ultra-stressed though, only hard physical exercise will do to get the endorphins flowing.

Teoh said...

Not surprising that most of us share a love for reading to relax! Does the type of books you read differs when you want to relax or any book will do? For me it's always a good romance to relax, any other book when I'm free to read.

I read, listen to music, have a bubble bath, crochet... mostly music though. I almost always have it on playing in the background. It helps me focus and relax.

Last week to relax, three female friends went to Williamsburg and stayed in a timeshare. There was a jacuzzi and while they shopped, I sat in it, and read. It felt so decadent. I do not have much time to relax because I am so anal. I live on the internet and enjoy talking with people from all over the world. I did get to read three books last week, so I'm very happy about that...
