My Dreams Are Coming True

We all have dreams, but how many of us really expect them to come true? I know I wished for mine to come true; hoped and prayed every chance I got but I didn’t really expect it to happen. Then it did. Kelley Vitollo sold a story!

Kelley Vitollo is a writer!

It feels so amazing to say that! I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of this feeling. I expect to wake up and find out it was all a dream.

I have always loved words and always dreamed of becoming a published author. Recently, I took that giant step and began working on making my dream come true. I stole minutes wherever and whenever I could and started a book. It felt amazing. During a moment of writers block on my novel, I wrote a short story and submitted it. On July 4th, 2006 I received a contract from Forbidden Publications for my short story, Dream Man! Since that day I haven’t been able to silence the characters in my head. I just finished a novella that will be submitted shortly; I’ve plotted the second novella in that series, and started working on my novel again.

Everyday I wake up in awe that this is really happening and not just a dream. I didn’t realize there was so much to publishing a book until now. I’ve been frantically working on blurbs, promos, getting a website built, and writing out what I would like for my cover art. Forbidden Publications has been wonderful to work with; answering my numerous questions like, “what do I do next”. I don’t yet have a release date for Dream Man, but my heart has still been beating to its own happy tune for a month now. I’m enjoying the whole process because it is all part of “the dream”.

The hard work is all part of the package and I love every second of it.

What are some of your dreams? When they came true, were they everything you thought they would be?

My answer is yes; becoming a published writer is everything I thought it would be and so much more.

Congrats Kelley on your first book!

I also have many dreams. One of them would be to sing professionally... however, I find that getting up in front of people to sing really ups my stress level. So, for the time being... it's only singing in church (I do the occasional solo) and in the shower for me. :)

After I met DH my dream was to become a mother. We have 3 children, and hope to have more.
Being a mother is the most rewarding job on the planet. I wake up every morning knowing how much my children need me and how much I love them. I love being pregnant, I love giving birth, I love breastfeeding my children, and cuddling with them as they sleep. I love holding onto their hands as they take first steps, and holding them in my lap as they take thier first taste of real food. I love each and every milestone, every laugh, every question even the constant annoying 'momomomomomomomomomomom' while out in public.
Later on in the future I'll be the 80 year old you hear about on the news who is still having babies.

Thanks!! This is all so amazing to me :)

I've always loved singing. Too bad I have a terrible voice! Keep on singing, and you'll get used to being in front of a crowd.

Chantal
I love being a mom too. I have one little girl. She does somthing new to amaze me everyday. Children are a true gift.

Congrats Kelly! I am so happy for you. It makes me smile to know that you are achieving your dream. I also know that you have a wonderful dh and beautiful little girl, and that just makes the writing dream-come-true even sweeter. I'm anxiously awaiting the release of Dream Man.

As far as recent dreams for me: I was finally able to retire from a much hated job. As my friend says, every day is pretty much your own to do as you please. About a month ago my former employer called to ask me if I would come back for the summer to do a special project. I was delighted to be able to say "thanks, but not thanks." LOL. I love being home!!

Congrats Kelley. Fulfilling dreams takes a little bit of luck and a lot of hard work. And maybe most of all enough self confidence to keep trying!

Kelley said...

Thanks Catslady!
I know this is just the beginning and I have a long road ahead of me. There will be stumbles, and falls ahead. But I know that I am traveling the right road. I can feel it.

Yeah, Kelley! I'm so happy for you. :o)

Like Jen, I've always wanted to be a singer. I just don't have the nerve. :P So to make up for it I have 3 children who get to hear mommy sing constantly. :o)
Another dream is to be a world traveller. I guess I need to make alot more $$ and have more time to do that. Maybe someday. *sigh*

Congrad's Kelley. I am happy for you.

I have many dreams but one of them had came true. I met the man of my life and we are engaged. Planning a wedding for 2007 or 2008. We know the date just not sure on the yr yet. We want to make sure everything is perfect such as getting our dream home we want.

My other dream I would really love to come true is to meet all my favorite authors. This yr I didn't get a chance to go to the RWA signing. Maybe next yr.

I am glad though that Lucy had this blog party. It was really nice for all you authors to donate such wonderful prizes. Thanxs to you all and Lucy for having a wonderful Blog party. It was alot of fun hope we can do it again :)

I got to sing onstage at Lincoln Center in New York City with the Denver Women's Chorus. It was wonderful. The Chorus has given me the opportunity to sing in front of thousands of people from one end of the USA to the other. The energy I get from singing lifts me up every time.

Woo-Hoo Kelley!! Dreams are VERY important and I'm so glad your are coming true.

My dream is like you. I've published a lot of non-fiction articles and been a journalist and now I'm a copywriter. But - my dream is to be a published fiction writer.

My mom has a saying, "When you dream, DREAM BIG, because God is always listening."

Congrats on the sale! And here's too many more to come! *wg*

As for my dream, it came true in April when Cobblestone Press bought my story. A story that it had been like giving birth to it. One that I came to delete about a dozen times. So when I got the "I want to contract your story" email, I felt like I was in an episode of the Twilight Zone. I could believe someone actually wanted the story! It wasn't until it was released that it sank in that it had really happened.

I had a dream to share my life with someone who loved me and had that come true, I dreamed of a family with that man, that came true. I had a dream t have ffriends and thanks to the internet, I have those. After my children are grown, my dream is to return to school and finish my degree and to somehow work around books. And thanks to 2 of my friends (not naming names) I get to read un-published authors works and since when ask for my input, help them. So, another of my dreams is sorta coming true. I feel truly blessed.

I have had many dreams come true both big and small but I find sharing these special moments with people warms your heart. It's a connection and it's knowing what kind of determination and effort goes into make that dream come true and sharing it with fellow people that you have some connection with and on this occasion, it happens to be with fellow authors and readers that love great stories.

Congrats Kelley, I look forward to reading your stories.

Cheers!

Hi Kelley~

I am so excited for you and it is awesome that you are a published author now!!! Congrats on your dreams coming true. By the way, your website is amazing and I love your Dream Man.

Happiness and contentment is my dream and we are working on achieving it daily. I am surrounded by a wonderful family who I love beyond all thought and I have just become a Grandma twice in one month...my two oldest daughters just had babies. I have a granddaughter and a grandson who are both healthy and absolutely beautiful. I have five children who are healthy and amazing. It is moments like watching my granddaughter be born is what makes life so wonderful.

Congrats again on your success and I can hardly wait for your story to come out.
