Let the party begin!

All right, let's get this NANTY (Not At National This Year) party going! I thought I'd kick off my post with the top twelve reasons to be glad we're not going to Atlanta (counting down from least important):

12. No major struggle to cram everything you can't live without into two suitcases and a carry on.
11. You don't have to get your hair cut and/or colored.
10. You don't have to get your nails done.
9. You don't have to get business cards printed.
8. You don't have to go through the insanity of airport security and the melee at the Atlanta airport.
7.You don't have freeze your *ss off in subzero conference rooms.
6. You don't have to fight three hundred women over four toilet stalls.
5 You save enough money for three months of groceries (or a year's worth of books).
4. You don't have to go shopping for "The Dress" for the awards ceremony (and see yourself in the dressing room mirror-arrgh!)
3. You don't have to go on the diet from h*ll to fit into the "The Dress" for the awards ceremony (see number 4).
2. No conference luncheons serving rubbery chicken, *and* (drum roll, please) . . .

The **number one** reason it's okay to miss the Atlanta conference: You get to blog party with the coolest people around!

WOOHOO!!! Confetti! Confetti! Confetti!

Hopefully the cover from my next book, Touched by Darkness (January 2007) made it into this post (I'm very techno challenged). I'm thrilled with this cover, because I think the guy on it is hot, hot, hot! And it doesn't hurt
that he looks just like the hero of the story.

So, what's on your TBR pile? That will be our topic of discussion when I post again on Friday. I'll tell you what I've been reading.

All right! Let's party!!!

~ Catherine

Well, golly, Catherine (Hi Lucy!) -- here I was, sitting at home wishing I was packing for Atlanta instead of cramming four weeks work into two and you came up with that fabulous list of good reasons not to go!

I think my favourite personal reason is not having to put on make-up and wear pantyhose in frying heat. Of course, the heat has been frying us here in Wales, too -- which is seriously weird.

Kelley said...

WOW! That is a hot cover :)

Hi everybody,

I was really depressed about being stick in the middle of nowhere. Now I am glad I am - getting to know lots of people, and ofcourse having loads of fun.

I love the cover Mmmmmmm...

What a fantastic idea. We are going to have all the fun and none of the headaches.

I haven't got a TBR list - I am forcing myself not to read, so I can get some writing done :)

KimW said...

Yay!!! The party has begun! Nice to see you here, Catherine. Never thought about the stall problem. I bet that line is huge.

I have a big TBR pile. All genres, all heat levels. Next up is The Sea King by Jolie Mathis.

Dannyfiredragon said...

Hot cover. I love Catherine's books. If you haven't read her Shielder series, you really should.

I don't have a TBR pile but a TBR mountain. Currently I am working on my review pile, so that they are ready for the next website update.

Currently I am reading Dangerous Curves by Pamela Britton for fun. Next are:
Sin by Sharon Page
Threads of Faith by Joey W. Hill
The Way home by NJ Walters

Hi from Wales! (yes - i'm here too Liz but I'm only visiting!)

I managed to grab some computer time away from the course I'm teaching so I thought I'd drop by and say Hello

Officially I'm not blogging till the end of the week but I'll hope to get back here again when I can. In the meantime, enjoy the party - and I'll enjoy the sunshiune!

And yes, it's wonderful not to have to struggle with makeup and pantyhose ! Wonderful

What a great party. You can show up at your leisure and you might win some fantastic prizes.

My TBR pile looks like this at the moment:
Anne Mcallister: Lessons from a Latin Lover

And at the moment I'm reading David Attenborough's book Life on Air.

Nonny said...

I don't have a to-be-read pile ... I have a to-be-read bookcase. ;)

Currently, I've got Kim Harrison's series and Rachel Caine's Weather Warden books top on my list. Someone I knew had panned Ill Wind very badly so I didn't read it till I decided to try it anyway. Now I have to find a bookstore that carries the rest of the series. LOL.

Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel books are also on TBR, as well as Katie MacAlister's Aislin Grey series. (Jeez, no wonder my TBR stack is a bookcase -- they're all serieses! LOL.)

CrystalG said...

I have a large tbr pile. Up next is Kate Collin's mystery Snipped in the Bud and after that Princess in Disguise by Lilian Darcy.

I love your reasons for being glad for not being at the conference. :)

LOL, Catherine. I loved the list.

I just went on an Amazon shopping spree so my TBR pile is rather large.
Currently reading Lucy's HIS ROYAL LOVE CHILD.
After that I'm not sure, either Nora Roberts ANGEL FALLS or Erin McCarthy HEIRESS FOR HIRE.

BTW, is that Nathan Kamp on that cover? He is a hottie and a half. :o)

I would have posted sooner, but I had to wipe the drool off my keyboard first! Super cool cover!

Becca said...

Your cover is great!
Right now I'm reading Marjorie M. Liu's The Red heart of Jade. I'm enjoying it but I'm stretching it out since I want to stick to my writing schedule.
Just finished Julia Quinn's latest, and Charlene Teglia's The Gripping Beast. Enjoyed them both!

Marcail said...

Great upbeat kick-off.

I'm waiting for "The Venus Fix" by MJ Rose. While waiting I reading an literary novel that cannot be read too quickly because of it's emotional intensity and the visual imagery evoked. It is about a Cree Indian sniper in WW1 and his journey back to himself and his people on return from the nightmare
of war. Titled "Three Day Road," it is a masterpiece of writing told in the oral traditions of the Native Indians of North America.

Nicole said...

Hey, love the cover. I'm impatiently waiting for that book.

On my tbr pile:

Lost Calling by Evelyn Vaughn
Some of Lucy's Presents that I've been saving up
Angels Fall by Nora Roberts
Covenants by Lorna Freeman

As far as my TBR pile, I just hope I live long enough to get through it. Currently I am reading Tina Leonard's Cowboys by the Dozen series. I have been stacking these books for a while, waiting until I had them all. Just finished the new Nora and Linda Howard books.

ShelMel said...

I love the cover - you're right - he's HOT, HOT, HOT!

The list is great for all of us not going to Nationals. Reminds us to always keep looking on the bright side of things.

My TBR pile is small... I read too fast. I'm catching up on some Linda Howard books though.

Thanks Catherine!!

I love your reasons. I was not doing well with my diet anyway. We'll have fun here. NOw Ican relax and do what I want and not worry about mising meetings. I also don't have to worry about not being invited.

I love the cover - will be checking it out, for sure!

My TBR pile includes too many to name them all, but closest to the top are books by Carly Phillips, Suzanne Forster and Kate Angell. Recent reads include Murphy's Law by Lori Foster, Toni Blake's Swept Away, which is great fun, A Hard Man to Love by Kathleen Lawless, very hot stuff there, and Erin McCarthy's High Stakes, also bunches of fun.

Thanks, Lucy!!

Cherie Japp said...

Great cover. That guy is hot. Loved your list. As for the TBR pile I have so many I could not count. I will name a few:

Jewel of Atlantis by Gena Showalter, Lawless by Diana Palmer, Fire and Ice by Vivienne King, Poison Study by Maria Snyder, Sensation of the Sea by Cyndi Redding, etc.

Catherine Spangler said...

Wow! My post has only been up a short time, and so many responses. This is great! So good to meet all of you. I love the TBR listings. Some really great books (and authors) listed.

Nonny, I almost fell out of my chair when I saw your list, because both Kim Harrison's new book (A Fistful of Charms) and Rachel Caine's next weather warden book (isn't that an incredible series?) are on my to get and read list.

LOL on the TBR bookcase versus the read too fast to have a TBR pile! I tend to have a small pile, because I'm a voracious reader. But I always read, even when I'm working on a book. Reading is almost as important to me as breathing and eating (although pitting it against chocolate would be tough toss up-LOL).

Good point on the makeup and panty hose Liz, although I have a daytime job and do have to wear makeup for work (it's either that, or scare small children).

Thanks for all the compliments on the cover. Yes, Julie, I'm pretty sure it's Nathan Camp. And yes, he's a mega hottie!

Let's keep partying!

On my TPR mountain I need to add Connie Brockway AS YOU DESIRE and ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT. Also, Kathryn Jordan HOT WATER and Nora Roberts BLUE SMOKE.
Oh, one more Christina Dodd OUTRAGEOUS.

I usually don't have so many books TBR but I went on a shopping spree and...well...Amazon is very happy with me. :o)

Liz & Kate! Great to see you. :) I'm so with you on the not wearing make-up and pantyhose thing.

As for my TBR pile, Catherine? It's an overflowing six foot tall bookcase with too many names too mention. But my most immediate TBR list is JR Ward, Samantha Storm & Dee Tenorio.

Catherine Spangler said...

I've heard Cherry Adair's "Edge" books are great (and they have wizards in them). They're on my "to-buy" list. Lucy, you will love the JR Ward books. I've read both Dark Lover and Lover Eternal and can't wait for book three (September, I think). Her vampire world is amazing.

I love the list! Those are all excellent points.

Great cover too!

I have just finished THE PRODIGAL'S RETURN by Anna DeStefano, and it was poignant and beautifully written. Next up is FLIRTING WITH FORTY by Jane Porter. My TBR pile is rapidly decreasing, as I have been reading quite a bit lately. My "to buy" list however, is a mile long right now lol.

Big hugs, Zara (Bamabelle)

Hello to the newest "commentees". What great TBR lists. Some of the titles are very intriguing . . . Now I'm going to have to add more to my list. But discussing books is a great way to find new books and authors. Thanks for sharing!

I have too many books in my TBR pile to list them all! I just finished a Lucy reading binge and read 5 of her latest books.
Next up, I think I'll read Deidre Martin's The Penalty Box.
I think that is "Stacy's man" Nathan Kamp on your book. We'll have to point this out to her!

Hi Catherine,

I agree with you this is a good way to find out about other authors. I love hearing about what others have on their TBR list.

Jennifer Y. said... TBR pile is not a pile, but a mountain...LOL. I keep the books in crates. Up next are books by LuAnn McLane, Heidi Betts, Johanna Lindsey, Katherine Garbera, Julia Quinn, Stephanie Laurens, etc.

Niny said...

Adding another great read to my TBR, not that I need any more, but I just cant resist! One can never have too many books right? LOL
I cant remember how many I got in my TBR's and there are so many that I cant remember the titles or authors. Anyway, this was a great idea Lucy! Yay!! Thanks for doing this!

Michelle B said...

I'd be here all week if I tried to list my TBR list. It's especially hard as I'm in the middle of moving and half of it is packed up in boxes:) And my virtual TBR list is growing exponentially it seems. Of course, it doesn't help when I don't have much time to read these days!

Carol said...

I love the number one reason! Blog parties are so much fun!

Next on my list to read is You Can't Hide by Karen Rose, Closer by Jo Leigh, and more books in J.D. Robb's In Death series.

Maria said...

That cover is absolutely gorgeous, congrats!

Currently reading Dragon's Diciple by Barbara Sheridan and Anne Cain.

Next I plan to read:
Devarian Uprising by Sierra Dafoe Warlord's Vengeance and Hunter’s Prize by Lexxie Couper
Edge of Danger by Cherry Adair.

I've soooo many books that I tend to forget which books I have.

Catherine Spangler said...

I just finished reading the latest JD Robb, Memory in Death. Great book. Also read If Angels Burn by Lynn Viehl (the first book in her Darkyn series). This is vampire, very dark (a la Anne Rice). It was darker than I prefer, and not really romance, but very intruiging. Right now, I'm reading Hunter's Moon by C.T. Adams and Cathy Clamp. Very cool twist on a werewolf story. So many books, so little time :-)

I have way to many books in my TBR pile. I have several I am waiting for that I have pre-ordered.

My TBR pile is not too bad... however, if you saw the list of books I want to pick up at the library or purchase... well, that's another story. Of course, my TBR pile did get bigger this weekend with the purchase of new books by Candice Hern and Roxanne St. Claire. :) It's never ending!

I'm currently reading "Lady Danger" by Sarah McKerrigan (Medieval Scotland). So, at the top of my TBR pile is the book that is due at the library next-- "This Rake of Mine" by Elizabeth Boyle. The next book of mine that I'd like to get read-- "Night Embrace" by Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Gotta love the positive attitudes! I'm a hit-or-miss RWA Nationals attendee, so I was more wistful than depressed as the week approached, but I'm thrilled to have an alternative to keep me busy!

And I love the reminder that pantyhose are optional for the blog party. LOL

TBR pile? Well, I just finished On The Way to the Wedding by Julia Quinn and LOVED it, but I'm holding off until August 15 to start reading a new one, when Suzanne Brockmann's latest comes out. And, coincidentally, the day my novella is due. :) But I'm taking notes from all the great suggestions here!

Awesome cover. I just wanted to sit and drool over it for a while.

My TBR pile is big. Up next is the Outsider by Diana Palmer.

Catherine Spangler said...

What's interesting to me is the huge range of romance subgenres and authors y'all are naming, and you each love certain authors. That's really cool because it means we have personal preferences to author voice and writing style. And it's great because romance is so versatille and offers so many different kinds of stories. I wish I could read every book mentioned here!

~ Catherine

Jennifer Y. said...

I like variety in my reading. I used to be a strictly historical romance I read contemps, paranormal, and other subgenres of romance. I am still relatively new to the contemporary romance books (have been reading them for about a year), but I have been reading romance books for 10 years...since I was 13.
