Guilty Pleasures and Favorite Sins

Good morning Everyone!

Many of you may not know me. I'm J.J. Massa, writer of all manner of ebooks that are creeping into print. The first book(s) I ever had published were werewolf related. A couple of vampires here and there. Very erotic, of course. I do like the whole story when I read. :) That's why I love Lucy so much. We agree on that and so many other things.

Anyway, those were the books I first had published. The first books I ever wrote for my own entertainment and stress release were...shhh...male/male.

*snicker
*

Well, that was my guilty pleasure and favorite sin. Okay, I also like dark red wine, old movies, M & Ms and Flav'r Ice Popsicles. A woman's gotta have a FEW vices, right? ...And carrot cake. *Sigh* I read like a fiend, too. Oh, man, all these talented writers at this party? I can't get enough of their work. It's like candy--whenever I can, I read one right after the other. It's a sin. But I can't help myself.

There! I feel better.

Don’t get me wrong; I love my werewolves, my vamps, my arrogant Cajuns, and paranormals. Love them! I just released a short story in a contemporary anthology – Hard Hats and Hard Bodies. I’ll never stop writing boy meets girl – um, with my own slant on it. That just goes without saying.

But there’s just something about two guys, isn’t there? All those pieces we don’t have…all those problems built right in. * happy sigh * I can’t get enough of writing those forbidden love books. Not as forbidden as it used to be, but still every bit as intriguing, huh?

Hopefully, you’ll find out for yourself. Lucy’s giving away a download of the first Montgomery Family werewolf book and one download of either of my Agency books that are already out.

But I want to go a little further. Tell me what your guilty pleasure and secret sin is. Do you like to spike your mother-in-law’s tea? Do you buy an entire cheesecake and hoard it? I’ll pick a winner from all the answers and mail them a copy of any one of my three male/male books in print.

I can’t WAIT to read of your answer.

I buy chocolate without telling my room mate and stash it somewhere where she doesn't know about. She's a big time chocoholic. lol I'm such a mean room mate aren't I? lol

Becky said...

If that's not bad enough she's diabetic and can only have chocolate once in a while.

Chocolate and cheesecake. I love chocolate.

I love brownies. I bought some peanut butter chunk brownies and have been eating them during the day while my hubby is at work. I justify it by convincing myself that it is okay since I am in my seventh month of pregnancy and I am entitled to my cravings and not having to share. :-)

Hi JJ,

I just love chocolate in any form and cheesecake!

I can really recommend JJ's books, especially her werewolf stories!

Ali said...

Hmmm...chocolate covered strawberries, erotic romance, truffles, erotic romance, dark chocolate, and did I mention erotic romance? lol

Jenn said...

I love dark chocolate. Dark chocolate truffles and a glass of wine they are my guilty pleasure.

Marcy said...

I hide my secret chocolate/cookie/candy stash away from my family.

J.J. Massa said...

Wow! Wonder why I'm craving chocolate right now? Oh man, wouldn't some peanut butter cup ice cream be GREAT! and wine and chocolate... Yum!

Don't worry, Becky, You're really a good roommate. I mean, she's got a condition, right? Why taunt her?
And Cherie, you deserve every bite -- August = 8th month of pregnancy? *GROANNNN*

Okay, so Amy's bringing the cheesecake, Becky's got chocolate, Jenn's down for the wine, Ali's got the strawberries and Danny? Oh, MORE cheesecake, please!

Sounds like a party to me!!!

um... I'll bring the books. *grin*

J.J. Massa said...

YAY Marcy, more chocolate!

am I the only one who sees a theme here?

Becky said...

Well I guess I am except for the fact that she's a chocoholic and she knows I have chocolate somewhere. She just doesn't know where to find it. lol

I can see that food is a fairly common guilty pleasure and I share it. Powdered sugar donuts. Yum! But another guilty pleasure is reading late into the night. I shouldn't...it makes it hard to function the next day, but when I get a good book, I'm no good at putting it down. I can count on one hand the number of books I have not read in one sitting in the last twenty years. I kid you not. Either it grips my interest and I read it straight through, or I skip to the end. And that's my guilty secret. :)

Anne McAllister said...

Yep, chocolate. And for a change of pace, as long as we're sticking to a food theme, salt-and-vinegar potato chips. I like a little variety in my guilty pleasures!

Jennifer Y. said...

Chocolate and staying up WAY too late!

Julie in Ohio said...

Guilty/sinful pleasure is chocolate chip cookie minus the chips and a glass of red wine. HMMM
That is the best thing for a stressful day or a night alone. Add a good book and it's heaven.:o)

Joyce said...

Two of my very favorites are chocolate and cheesecake. I wish I could hoard them.

J.J. Massa said...

I see what you mean, Joyce, about cheesecake not hoarding very well. *sigh*

But I DO love a chocolate chip cookie with a glass of Pinot Noir.

I like to eat m&ms and peanuts -- seperate but at the same time. *shrugs* well, it works for me.

I like coffee and bourbon, too. I'm a bad seed, huh?

Oh, and I put potato chips, plain, thank you, not s&v, on my sandwich. You can have those, Anne.

You know, Lucy, I've done that, many times. If a book doesn't grab me early, I just check the ending and move on. Life is short, isn't it? We have to spend what little down time we get carefully, don't we?

Kiki said...

My secret pleasure?
Pretzels with nutella. Pure comfort food.
And the added gross factor keeps others away...

Estella said...

I buy jelly beans and hide them from my DH. He would eat all of the black ones.

Amy said...

Anything Choclate and Icecream. OH and usually when one of my favorite authors books arrive (I have several) I will stay off work so I can read the book because I am so excited to get it I can't wait until after work.

I suppose my guilty pleasure is erotic romances. I get enough teasing from my family (mostly my younger sisters) about reading traditional romances... probably a good thing the don't know about my ebook collection. :)

Food wise... since I'm on a diet, most sweets are guilty pleasures for me. I particularly enjoy PB M&Ms, Ben & Jerry's Fudge Core ice cream and french fries... Now I've gone and made myself hungry (it's probably a good thing I'm at work and can't get my hands on snacks!).

Dannyfiredragon said...

Jen,

oh I know your problem only to well. My family is teasing me terribly and they also know about the erotic romances. Since then it got even worse. LOL

CrystalG said...

I get treats and hide them from my husband. If I don't he eats all of them before I can get any.

I'm not a coffee drinker but I love coffee ice cream. A town nearby has a dairy -- they make their own ice cream. They have a coffee ice cream with mini marshmallows, nuts, and chocolate shavings --- YUMMY!!!

I travel a lot (my job) and when I get back to my hotel room at night, I like to have a glass of red wine.

Food wise - I eat some pretty gross things, at least, according to my hubby. Raw macaroni, banana & mayo sandwhiches, I eat bubble gum like it's candy - I swallow the gum. *cough* Among other things.... *wink, nudge*

Food vices: brownies - nobody better eat those center pieces because they are mine!, cherry cheesecake, Snickers
Non-food: Books - I have more than hubby knows about. Don't tell him! Playing on the internet until the wee hours of the morning.

As for spiking my m-i-l's drink, I've thought about it, but haven't done it! (Yet! LOL)

Shelmel - I love raw macaroni/pasta! My husband thinks I'm nuts. But, both of my daughters now eat it too!

JJ - I put potato chips on my bologna sandwiches. It's the only way I can eat one!

I also like raw potatos with salt on them.

J.J. Massa said...

Thank you, Jodi! At least I'm not the only one. I'm a vegetarian, so I eat faux bologni.

We DO seem to have more than a few food vices, huh? Especially ShelMel *g*

My guilty pleasure is reading the obits
My secret sin is what I do in the shower sometimes. Hee.

I love to just sit and nibble at Wensley Dale cheese with cranberries, whilst reading an erotic romance. I keep slicing little bits off the cheese rather than eating it in one go-even when I'm on my own because....well, it would seem greedy.Yet I still manage to scoff the whole lot!!

Carol said...

I buy books and don't tell my husband! lol I have so many that once I put them on the shelf he doesn't realize I've bought more! He just doesn't understand why I want more when I haven't read all the ones I have!!!

Lori said...

Hi J.J.

My secret sin is M&M's (the candy kind) and reading erotic romance. At least, it used to be my secret. My husband is a bit prudish and it would really freak him out to know exactly what kind of romances I read...but I am absolutely addicted to it!!!
I, also, horde M&M's...with five children I have to keep my stash well hidden or I end not getting any.
I am definitely going to have to try a M/M romance. I have heard wonderful things about them.

My guilty pleasure...going to the erotica websites and viewing the hard bodies of all those gorgeous guys! WOW! Your book sounds GREAT!!

I shop and have to hide the purchases in the trunk of my car. If it is shoes, I scuff up the bottom of the shoes before I bring them inside. When my honey asks "Are those shoes new" I show him the bottom of the shoes and say no I just haven't worn them in a while :-)

Recently they added a chanel to my direc tv service that plays reality shows 24/7. I know I'm just about the only person in America who doesn't "get" them or watch them, however recently I found myself caught up in "Bachelorettes in Alaska". I ended up tivo-ing the whole series and watching it. It was really awful, but just like a car accident I couldn't look away.

You guys are GREAT! I'm learning so many cool tricks here!

I think Chocolate is a pretty famous guilty pleasure for lots of women. Not me though, I hate the stuff....
OK, I lied. I don't really hate it, I LOVE it. I just pretend to hate it because I am allergic to it. Why could I not have been allergic to snails or fish eggs instead?

My guilty pleasure is Pepsi. I'm so addicted to it it's not even funny. I know how bad it is for me, but I really don't care. It's so good, yum!

Pamk said...

lol Bryar's Reece's ice cream is my secret vice. And I love your werewolf books too. Also your cajun books.

Jennifer L. said...

My secret pleasure is stawberry cheesecake ice cream. If only my hips, thighs, and butt didn't adore it also.

I am a salt person... I love chips and I dip them in cream cheese with chives... otehr than that, A nice cold beer on Friday nights after a rough week at work.

Mine is chocolate too. I confess that I usually have some in hiding places, for those moments that you need some :o)
Another guilty pleasure books, and reading. I stayed later that I should many nights after my hubby is sleeping just to read a little more. When I was studying years ago, I had to hide new books out of my sight, because if not, I could stay all night reading for pleasure, instead of preparing for a test, and in that time, I haven't discovered romances yet. now the adiction is worse :o)

Hey, JJ, I love anything chocolate, especially my mother's homemade fudge, sweet with a harder candylike consistency. She'll send me over a small tin every so often and I'll curl up with a book, my can of Coke and possibly eat it all.

While I may not be a fan of m/m romance, I read everything else of JJ's and recommend them along with Danny.

Teoh said...

:O oooo we have a deleted comment! Wonder how scandalous it was!

My secret indulgence is hot fudge brownie with sweet vanilla ice cream on top and lots of chocolate sauce with a spicy erotic book on hand! Any time, any place, any where! How scandalous will depends on the book!

The first thing that came to mind with me is food. I love food, yet I'm a picky eater. Does that make sense? LOL! I guess I love what I love a lot, but there's not all that much I love:)

I also am big on desserts. I love baking.

Lisa T said...

Wow, I love chocolate just as much as the next gal but my secret vice is plain chips with french onion dip. I have to hide them from my boys. The next vice would be reading into the wee hours of the night....I see nothing wrong with it but my hubby says that it disturbs him when I finally come to bed. Sorry not gonna change...lol.

cyngreen said...

I love to eat raw cookie dough - especially chocolate chip

I know I'm coming in late to the party -- just got back from a very long day of driving -- but had to chime in. I agree with Lucy that staying up late to finish a book is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I know I'll be wiped out the next day, but I just *have* to find out what happened.

Oh, and I buy bags of candy and stash them in my filing cabinet so no one else can eat them. :)
