Dancing around my office...

I just uploaded my brand spankin' new website for my upcoming paranormal series, "Children of the Moon". I'm really pleased with how it turned out. What do you all think?

As many of you know, I'm pretty excited about my werewolf books. Despite the fact that I had contracts coming out my ears (along with deadlines), I wrote the first story entirely on spec because I just couldn't help myself. Thankfully, Berkley bought it. A contemporary novella in the anthology UNLEASHED (out in Dec '06). The second is the first in a series of werewolf historicals set in the Scottish Highlands. Some of you will remember we had a reader vote to determine the title from a list generated by chatters on the Scamps, Vamps & Spicy Romance loop. Ann Lorz had the winning title, MOON AWAKENING and the publisher went for it. Cool, huh?

So tell me, do you read paranormals and if so, what's your favorite flavor (shapechangers, fantasy, vampires, time travel, etc.)?

The cover on "Moon Awakening" is gorgeous.

I'm not a big paranormal fan, but your book may change that! I think it's just because I have so many books to read that I'm "afraid" of finding a genre that I'll have to go hunting for!
Truthfully, I have several paranormal ebooks on my computer waiting to be read, but I just have to find the time

Michelle B said...

I do read paranormal stories. There's not really anything I won't read as long as I like the overall story. I find that I mostly read vampire and werewolf stories.

I'm not all that into time travel, though I have enjoyed some in the past.

Now I'm off to check out the new website:)

I loved the website. I found it yesterday when I was checking out your regular site for upcoming releases. I can't believe how much work and detail has gone into it.

I do read some paranormals. I really like MaryJanice's Wyndham werewolves and also the pack that Kelley Armstrong has written about, so I guess I'm a werewolf fan. But vamps are good too.

I'm really looking forward to Unleashed.

The cover looks awesome. :D

I'm primarily a fantasy reader -- I didn't actually read romance to any extent until the paranormals started to come out.

I'm not so crazy on shapeshifters, especially werewolves -- but I think Richard from LKH and the tendency for romance writers to portray alpha male shifters as domineering pricks has soured me on that. Werecats and other sorts of exotic animals, I'm more into.

I like vampires a lot, but even I have to admit they're getting "old." I read a lot of vampire books that are more of the same ... and maybe it's just me, but I'm rather annoyed that most vampire romances seem to avoid the Bite at all costs. Excuse me, but if you're going to write a vampire, write a damn vampire. (Incidentally... J. R. Ward and Shiloh Walker have had some of the hottest vampire books I've read yet.)

Other than that... I like psychics and witches, but I haven't seen too much done with that, really. I like fantasy a lot, and I like the stuff that's "outside the box" in regards to the paranormal. (As long as it's done well.)

Basically... more! But not just more of the same. ;)

I love fantasy paranormals. My favorites are shapeshifters, especially Karen Whiddon's shapeshifters who can turn into wolves.

Looks great. I am pretty much a vampire girl. Mostly the funny ones. Do like the werewolf ones too.

I am a HUUUGE paranormal fan. I love anything werewolf/shifter or vampire. Time travel is ok but not a favorite.

Hi Lucy (great party btw).
The only paranormals I've read so far is Barbara Erskine, and the trilogy Nora Roberts wrote (not sure if they count?).

I love the sound of your werewolf historicals set in the Highlands coming out in 2007, and I'm looking forward to reading an excerpt.

KimW said...

Neat website, Lucy! I'm going to have to spend some time browsing around there.

I like to read all types of books to keep things interesting including paranormals. I don't have one particular favorite. I've probably read more vampire and time travel stories versus shapechangers and fantasy.

I have only read ghost stories for paranomral. I haven't tried anything else yet

I like to read about vamps and weres, Lynn Viehl has got some really great vamp books out.

I don't recall reading about any Scottish weres, so I'm looking forward to it, and also to Unleashed!

Thanks so much for hosting this party,

Hi. I love your new website. Very eyecatching.

Sorry to say I am not into paranormals.

I have read an occasional ghost or angel book and have enjoyed them tho.
(Judi Mcoy, Deb Macomber's angel books, Marilyn Pappano's Bethlehem Series). If I did venture to try one it might possibly be a humorous vamp. Definitely not shapeshifter, werewolves, etc. Just not my cup of tea. I do not mean to offend anyone.

Niny said...

My first paranormal was a Vampire read then read a ghost story and really enjoyed them, so much that I got hooked! I have to say, If its got your name in it I'll read it. You always do a great job. I'm not big on historicals and I have devoured yours so I wouldnt be surprised to be the same with your werewolf! BTW love the cover on "Moon Awakening" and looks like you are in great company on your Dec release! Good job Lucy!

Congrats on your new series! That cover looks great.

Lucy, congratulations on your new series. I love your new website, it is great.

I have read paranormal stories, but it mostly is tied to the Author as to which one I read. I have enjoyed shapeshifting ones by Karen Widdon on the Pack Series. And there have been others.

I look forward to reading your new series.

Excellent site Lucy! Can't wait to read them! I'm open to any story in any time or place with any kind of magic. I think it is wonderful you are trying new genre's, it'll help keep you fresh!

I love the new website. Looks great!

I have only read 4 paranormal romances. 3 I liked and one I did not. The one I didn't like was a vampire story, and even though I loved that aspect of it, there was a rape scene in the book that turned me right off. Reading that in a love story felt so wrong.
I enjoy time travel, fantasy, and I am looking forward to reading my first werewolf one.

Hi Lucy!!! I love the cover and title and the blurb from you! I read lots of paranormal and to find it to be historical, makes it unique, plus being a MIK, makes this even more special. Definately can't wait for this! I'll be in line first getting this one! I hope its one of many in this series!! Thanks for all you do.

Cathie said...

I wanted to mention some of my favorite with parnormal. Love the vamps and werewolves. Really I think each author i've read has a uniqueness of their story that I want to read more and more and don't get tired of them! I'm just getting into other shapeshiters so its been a fun time reading all these different paranormals. I too enjoy dream lovers and ghost stories. Miss those gothic romances!

Lucy, the website is awesome! And I love, love, love the cover! You are one talented lady. *Of course* I read paranomal :-) I read all kinds, but I think my favs are vampire, werewolf, witches, futuristics (as in JD Robb, and I write them as well), and urban fantasy (like Rachel Caine's weather warden series). The more creative and unique the twist on the story, the better I like it.

For those of you who haven't read paranormals, I say try it! What have you got to lose? You get frustrated with people who look at romances and say "Oh, I don't read those books!" (and hold up a cross while they're saying it). Many of these same people have *never* read a romance. I'm sure you don't appreciate close-minded types who have *never* at least tried a romance, so you need to be open minded yourself and give paranormals a try.

Here's an idea: Email either me or Lucy, tell us what kind of non-paranormal books you like to read (humorous, dark, emotional, sexy, etc.) and we'll make some book recommendations. (Hey Lucy, I hope you don't mind that I just volunteered you-LOL). You can e-mail me at romance@catherinespangler.com.

My two cents :-)

~ Catherine

I enjoy a good paranormal romance. I've probably not read as many as several of the people on the blog... but I've read my fair share.

I definately prefer vamps and shifters. Time travel is OK... I prefer when they go back in time. I don't really enjoy fantasy (maybe because I've not read much of it). My main thing when I'm picking out a paranormal is that it isn't more horror than romance.

Great covers by the way!

Thanks everyone for the good wishes, the kind words on my cover(s) (I REALLY love them both, but especially MOON AWAKENING's) and for those of you who checked out the new site. I spent WEEKS putting it together in my "off" hours and I was really keen to hear what readers thought. I so wanted to create a place where you could immerse yourself in the world of my Chrechte (werewolves). :)

Oh, and as Catherine said, I'd be very happy to recommend paranormal authors based on their current tastes to anyone who wants to give the genre a try.

Hugs to you ALL!

Hi Lucy, I was never a fan of paranormal until I read one of Christine Feehan's Dark books. I have been hooked on her books every since. I know they will be wonderful because the rest of your books are.

OK, I stand corrected. There is one paranormal event I can't get into...ghosts.
